Fall Into Autumn

With the change of seasons comes the body and minds unique set of requirements. Moving from the fire energy of the summer into the metal energy of autumn reminds us of the constant flow of life. This flow calls you to change what you eat, nurture the corresponding organs, and be mindful of your physical and mental wellbeing by noticing how your body and mind feel during these months.

The Metal Element: Lung and Large Intestine

Emotional transformation at this time represents the process of letting go; exhaling (lungs), excreting (large intestines) what you no longer need. This is a great time to journal and make note of behaviors, activities, and people that no longer serve your growth, be grateful for the time that “it” did serve you and move on. You can also practice letting go by cleaning and organizing closets, pantries, refrigerators, garages. etc.

Physical transformation

Your lungs rule the wei qi or protective qi. Wei qi is the closest to the surface and needs to be strong to prevent illness.

Autumn is the peak time for the lungs so they need to be strong to prevent catching colds and flus and lessen the effects of seasonal allergies.

This is a preventative time for the colder months ahead.

Food Therapy

Root Vegetables - onion, sweet potatoes, turnips, radish

  • Nuts & Seeds

  • Winter squash - pumpkins, acorn, butternut

  • Fall fruits - apples (nourishes yin), pears (helps the lungs)

  • Lentils/Legumes

  • Mushrooms and Broths

All of the above foods have a high nutrient content and aid in digestion, help strengthen your lung and wei qi by tonifying qi, nourishing yin and draining damp.

How can we help you at Emerge?

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is preventative medicine!

Get regular treatments at Emerge Acupuncture & Wellness to strengthen your lungs, immune system, large intestines, gut health and having the best bowel movements of your life.

We can also address any acute issues or chronic issues (comorbidities) you may be dealing with.

Herbal Medicine

Used for prevention, acute and chronic care.

If you are at high risk for catching colds or flus, you should be taking a regular herbal formula for prevention. This includes healthcare workers, teachers, parents etc.

Herbal medicines are even for all children! Dr. King and Brittany’s children (ages 2-28) have been regularly using herbs their entire life, quite literally since infancy.

If you are currently sick, we have an herbal formula for that. We will set up a telehealth visit and prescribe a formula to help you get healthy quicker. Don’t skip your appointment because your sick, tell us and we can help you get better, faster!

If you have lingering symptoms such as cough and fatigue, we have herbs for that, too.

DID YOU KNOW… that we offer nutritional herbal therapy? These are raw herbs that you use to make homemade bone broth and teas. We also often help families create a natural herbal medicine cabinet based on your family’s needs.

Injection Therapy

  • B12 (methylcobalamin)

  • Homeopathic Engystol: shown to reduce the length and severity of colds and flu and delay or eliminate the onset of new cases by reducing the inflammatory response.

  • Tri Immune Boost (glutathione, ascorbic acid, zinc) all of these boost your immune system.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is one of the best ways to feel supported through changing seasons. Fall, in particular, is when weather starts to drop a little bit which can impact your circulation, mood, and even muscle recovery. Massage helps to improve circulation, relieve muscle tension and pain, and soothe your anxiety.

As we transition into this new season, embrace the natural flow of change.  Let go, reflect, cultivate a sense of strength and clarity.  Incorporate habits such as mindfulness, eating nourishing, seasonal foods and developing supportive routines.

Take care of your physical body by taking preventative steps to wellness including a trip to Emerge for a “tune up” appointment.

We wish you all the season’s gifts and hope you find your center in the shifting winds.
